Day-Wise Meghalaya Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival at Guwahati-Shillong Tour

We will receive you from the Guwahati Airport and drive you to Shillong. On the way, you’ll stop at the beautiful and giant Umiam Lake. After reaching your hotel check-in and relax for some time. Thereafter you will be taken to visit some beautiful places of Shillong and nearby places. You will start by visiting Lady Hydari Park, Ward’s Lake and Botanical Garden and later visit Shillong Golf Course. In the evening you can stroll in and around the local market or be at leisure.

Day 2 – Shillong – Cherrapunji Sightseeing

Early morning after breakfast head for Cherrapunji. En-route Cherrapunjee, you’ll visit Shillong Peak and see a panoramic view of the whole city followed by a visit to the Elephant Falls. Later reach Mawkdok Dympep Valley and witness the majestic valley of the region. Also visit Arwah Caves, Mawsmai Caves, Nohkalikai Falls, Seven Sister Falls, Wei Sawdong Falls, Dainthlen Falls and Eco Park. In the evening check-in to your hotel at Cherrapunji and relax overnight.

Day 3 – Double Decker Root BridgeTrekking

Early morning after breakfast you will be heading to the Tyrna village for a whole day trekking to the Double Decker Root Bridge. You will trek down approximately 3500 steps to reach the root bridge at Nongriat. You can also extend the hike to the Rainbow Falls which is an additional one and half hour walk. After an exhausting yet adventurous experience, you will end your trekking and we will drop you to your hotel at Cherrapunji for an overnight stay.

Day 4 – Mawlynnong and Dawki Tour -Camping at Shnongpdeng

After breakfast, you will drive to Mawlynnong Village where you have a walk and witness the local culture. See the Balancing Rock, Bangladesh View and then visit the single living root bridge at Riwai. Later visit Dawki Lake, also known as Umngot Lake and thereafter you will be transferred to Shnongpdeng for overnight camping at the riverside.

Day 5 – Dawki – Jowai Tour

This day is going to be the most special one during the whole trip as on this day you will not only witness the beauty of East Khasi Hills, you will also be doing quite a few adventurous activities including Kayaking, Boating, Zip lining, Cliff Jumping, etc. Then you will visit Jowai to see the Krang Suri Waterfalls and get drenched while swimming after which you’ll travel back to Shillong for the night.

Day 6 – Departure

Not much to do on the last day as you’d need some time to pack your bags before you say goodbye to Meghalaya. We will drop you at Guwahati Airport/ Railway Station for your onward journey.

Weather in Meghalaya

Meghalaya is blessed with pleasant weather because it is a hilly region. It has a cold climate in winters and less heat in summer. The average daily maximum temperature is just 30 degrees celsius. The climate in Meghalaya is considered to be pleasant most of the time. The best time would be during monsoons when the waterfalls have the best sight. Or you can visit during October to March when you can find good hotels at reasonable prices. Remember that the climate here is quite humid, so you need to carry your outfits accordingly. Meghalaya can be visited during monsoons as well as during the winter season.

How to reach Meghalaya

For reaching Mehalaya you have to first reach Guwahati from where you can hire a cab to visit Meghalaya.

Budget travellers choose to travel by bus as it is quite cheap, but it is not always comfortable. There are many tourist buses available to choose from. However, the buses are quite slow, therefore, many people favour hiring cabs from Guwahati to reach Meghalaya.

There is a helicopter service here that can be used to travel to Meghalaya. People like this route as it takes just 20 minutes via helicopter to reach Shillong from Guwahati this way. The drawback is that this service is not available for tourists on Sundays.

You can also hire a Guwahati to Shillong Taxi to reach Meghalaya from Assam by road. It takes around 2-3 hours to reach from Guwahati to Shillong.
