Dawki Tour Day-wise itinerary

Day 1 – Guwahati – Shillong – Umiam Lake

After a short meet and greet at Guwahati Airport or Guwahati Railway Station, you will head towards the capital of Meghalaya. On the way, 15 km before reaching Shillong on the Guwahati-Shillong National Highway, you will stop at Umiam Lake Viewpoint and refresh yourself with the calm breeze of the spectecular Umiam Lake.

Once you reach Shillong, you will be doing sightseeing in Shillong city and the nearby areas. You will visit Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak. Thereafter visit Ward’s Lake, situated in the heart of Shillong, Shillong Golf Course, and Lady Hydari Park. Later take a walk in the famous Police Bazaar and explore the local market after which you’ll have your overnight stay at Shillong.

Day 2 – Mawsynram Day Trip

As the second day of your tour starts, you will be taken to Mawsynram. Visit Mawjymbuin caves, which are just two and a half km away from the Mawsynram bus station and made of calcareous sandstone making it a thrilling experience. Then we will take you to Jakrem hot spring where the water is naturally hot.

After that you will go to Khreng Khreng Falls that is only 4 km from the Mawsynram village with some wonderful scenic beauty and see the stunning view of Lum Iawpaw hill, Umngi River, Rit Syntein while also seeing the sunset. Evening you will be taken back to Shillong for an overnight stay.

Day 3 – Jowai Excursion and Laitlum Canyons Visit

In the morning after having a delicious breakfast, you will head to Jowai, Jaintia Hills. Here you will witness the Nartiang Monoliths, the Krang Suri Falls, Phe Phe Falls and Thadlaskein Lake. You will also visit the lesser-known Tyrshi Falls and also the Stone Bridge.

On your way back you will see the astounding Laitlum Grand Canyons where you can spend your time refreshing yourself. In the evening head to your hotel in Shillong for an overnight stay.

Day 4 – Dawki – Mawlynnong Trip

You need to wake up quite early on the fourth day of the tour, but, trust us, it will be worth it. After an early breakfast, you’ll be driven to Mawlynnong where you can explore the village that is considered to be the cleanest in entire Asia. Also, see the Balancing Rock and the Bangladesh plains. Walk to the Riwai Village to enjoy the breathtaking view of the single living Root Bridge. Later you’ll be taken to Dawki- the gateway to Bangladesh that is just 34 km away from Mawlynnong. At Dawki you will see the Umngot river- which is the cleanest river and one can see the river bed from the surface of the lake. In the evening you will be taken to the campsite at Dawki, Shnognpdeng for an overnight riverside camping along with bonfire.

Day 5 – Dawki – Cherrapunjee – Living Root Bridge Trekking

Early morning head to Cherrapunji. Today you will trek to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge which will take at least five hours. The two bridges are stacked on top of each other hence the name “Double Decker”. The trek involves stepping down almost 3000 steps to reach the root bridge. Spend some time at the root bridge and return back to the starting point at Tyrna. Get into the resort where you will have time to rest to get rid of your fatigue and spend the night at Cherapunjee.

Day 6 – Cherrapunjee Day Excursion

This is going to be a fun-filled day with several amazing activities lined up for you. You will start the day excursion by visiting the Seven Sisters Falls (also known as Nohsngithiang or Mawsmai Falls), Mawsmai Cave, 6 km away from the Sohra market, and is the only lighted cave in India. Then you will go to Eco Park that has several hybrids and indigenous orchids in the Green House donated by the Shillong Agri-Horticultural Society. Post this visit, you will be taken to see the Nohkalikai Falls, Arwah Caves, and Wakaba Falls as well. Also visit the Wei Sawdong Falls and Dainthlen Falls before concluding the day.

Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

Day 7 – Departure

Today is the end of your trip. You will check out from the hotel after having breakfast and reach the Guwahati airport or station with lovely memories and say goodbye to your Dawki Tour.

Weather in Dawki

You can visit Dawki any time during the year, however, the winter season is the ideal time to go there which is November to May as you get to explore its amazing, scenic beauty. The weather during this time is really good. If you are planning to go during the February to April period then you might want to reconsider your decision since this is the peak period in Dawki which draws a massive number of tourists with very few staying options available or it would be better if you make the bookings well in advance to avoid such a situation.

Dawki does not have a railway station or an airport and it is around 81 km away from Shillong.

The closest airport to Dawki is the Umroi Airport in Shillong, located approximately 107 km away but travellers can also come to Dawki via Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport in Guwahati and then head to Dawki via Shillong. The Guwahati airport is roughly 191 km away from Dawki.

The nearest railway station to Dawki is the Guwahati Railway Station, located almost 172 km away from Dawki. You can take a bus or book a taxi from the Guwahati to Dawki.

If you do not have any budget restrictions, there is also an option to book a helicopter ride from Guwahati to Shillong and then go from Shillong to Dawki via taxi.
